WESTFIELD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
Westfield Gasifier
Accomplishments - We originally acquired the Westfield Development Centre through Fife Energy from British Gas plc in 1992, including all plant equipment and technical licenses. During our ownership, we managed the design and installation of a GE Frame 6A combustion turbine configured for operation on both natural gas and SG to facilitate the anticipated IGCC operation. We initially operated the Westfield facility on natural gas as the first independent power station in the then newly deregulated British electricity market.
Plans for Centre - We plan to restart operations at Westfield in two phases. In the first phase, we have begun the work necessary to re-commission an existing gasifier and to add new related equipment and site services. The gasifier would provide fuel to a gas turbine combined cycle unit owned by a third party at the Westfield site. The second phase would add seven new gasifiers, each utilizing renewable feedstock, which qualify for U.K. Renewable Obligations Certificates (ROC), and build a new 400MW IGCC facility at the site. In contrast to the other projects, the Westfield gasifiers will use fixed bed gasification technologies.
